From Our President

The Southpointe Rink Rats’ Board of Directors (BoD) is very excited to embark on another exciting year of youth hockey and we want to warmly welcome you to the Southpointe family for the 2012-13 season. As youth hockey continues to grow in our region we strive to grow our own association with discipline and care.

Our values have remained the same. We focus on growing our players as individuals, having fun, and encourage themto challenge themselves on and off the ice. We strive to teach the fundamentals of hockey and provide a competitive environment with a family atmosphere and to ensure that our kids, who play hockey, learn to love the game of hockey. We have a special group of coaches and business managers and we are confident that they will provide the necessary guidance to keep us heading in the proper direction.

This new season represents our first full implementation of the American Development Model (ADM) hockey for players at the Mite level. The ADM program helps us introduce the parts of the game that the younger players enjoy the most. Touching the puck more often, a playing surface that fits their size and skillset, and making new friends in a team atmosphere.

We are working on a couple of different approaches for supplementing our player development this season including power skating and goalie development. Both programs will be implemented in-house using experts that will schedule coordinated visits with coaches during normal practice times. This approach allows for a level appropriate dedicated teaching of the specific skill. And eliminates those 5:30pm rush drives up to RMU!

Most importantly, the strength of Southpointe Hockey is the continuing support of you, the Membership. Your feedback is important to us and we want to hear from you. Please use the website as an informational resource (Southpointe activities, notices, etc.) and to find contact information for Board members so that we can answer questions, concerns or field suggestions that will improve your overall experience.

We have worked extremely hard to foster a family atmosphere and we want to bring all of the best ideas that come from you to the table.

Looking forward to another great year for the Black and Red

Carmen Ritacco
